Philips WiZ
A Crestron Home platform driver that finds Philips WiZ lights, fans and smart plugs on the local network and controls them natively from Crestron Home, without the WiZ cloud.
What it does
- Finds WiZ devices already on the Wi-Fi by a UDP broadcast, and reads each device's identity and limits before it publishes it. It does not onboard new devices.
- Tunable-white bulbs get native lighting: on/off, dimming and colour temperature, with the range read from the device (typically 2700-6500 K).
- RGBWW bulbs and strips also get hue and saturation, and colour scenes.
- Lights take part in Crestron Home lighting scenes and room all-on and all-off.
- Fans get on/off, six speed steps, reverse and breeze. A fan with a tunable-white light also gets brightness and colour temperature.
- Smart plugs get on/off on their own tile, and power in watts on models that meter it.
- Group lamps: several bulbs show in Crestron Home as one light.
- Its own settings page on port 9533, opened from Setup for one hour and protected by a PIN: discovery, naming, room placement, groups, backup and restore.
- State feedback by UDP push, with polling as the fallback. A command to a device that does not answer is tried for at most 5 s, then reported as failed.
Devices and protocols
- Philips WiZ tunable-white bulbs, RGBWW bulbs and strips
- WiZ fans, and WiZ smart plugs
- WiZ local UDP protocol: port 38899 for discovery and commands, 38900 for push feedback
- Crestron Home on a CP4-R
Requirements
- A Crestron Home processor. Only a CP4-R on Crestron Home 4.11 is tested; the driver declares SDK 21 or later.
- Each WiZ device added to the Wi-Fi in the WiZ app first. WiZ devices are 2.4 GHz only.
- WiZ firmware 1.22 or later.
- The processor and the WiZ devices on the same subnet, with AP/client isolation off. UDP 38899 open, and 38900 for push feedback.
- In the WiZ app's security settings: local communication on, and "Only verified controls" off.
- Static DHCP leases, strongly recommended.
- A browser on the same network, for the settings page.
Limits to know before you install
- Tested on Crestron Home 4.11 only.
- A new device appears in Crestron Home only after it is placed from the settings page.
- Dimming stops at the device's own floor: 10% on every device measured.
- Colour and colour temperature are exclusive of each other (WiZ firmware).
- A light with no power may still look online; its controls fall back after 3-5 s.
- Bulbs have no Device Info page and no signal reading. Not every plug meters power.
- A driver update empties the settings folder: save a backup first.
- Dual-head fittings, fans with a light, and the restore after a power cut are not tested on hardware.
- Models show as module identifiers, for example ESP25_SHTW_01, not marketing names.
