KNX over IP

A Crestron Home platform driver that bridges a KNX installation over KNXnet/IP. Its web configurator, served by the driver from the processor, imports an ETS project and maps the group addresses to Crestron Home devices.

What it does

  • Connects the Crestron Home processor to the KNX bus through a KNXnet/IP gateway or router.
  • A web configurator served by the driver from the processor, on port 9521 by default. The Setup item "Open KNX configurator" opens it for one hour.
  • Imports an ETS project (.knxproj) in the browser, password-protected projects included, and proposes devices from it.
  • An import review: change the type of a proposed device, or add a group address the import left out.
  • Changes apply without a driver restart. A test action switches a load and reports its feedback, for commissioning.
  • Device types: on/off, dimmable and tunable-white lights; relay or load; fan; shade or blind; thermostat; binary sensor for occupancy or contact.
  • Publishes the child devices only once the tunnel is up, so they appear Online in Crestron Home.
  • The configurator's API is protected by a PIN and rate-limited.

Devices and protocols

  • KNXnet/IP tunnelling
  • ETS 6.2 or later project files (.knxproj, schema 23)
  • KNX datapoint types 1.x switching and feedback, 5.001 brightness, position and speed, 7.600 colour temperature, 9.001 temperature, 20.102 HVAC mode, 1.018 occupancy, 1.019 contact
  • Tested gateway: Schneider SpaceLogic KNX IP Router MTN6500-0103
  • Running on a CP4-R and an MC4-R

Requirements

  • A Crestron Home processor. The driver declares SDK 21 or later.
  • A KNXnet/IP gateway or router the processor can reach. Its address goes into Setup.
  • An ETS 6.2 or later project export (.knxproj).
  • A browser on the same network as the processor, for the configurator.

Limits to know before you install

  • KNX Secure is not supported: plain tunnelling only.
  • On/off lights and binary sensors are verified on hardware. Dimmable and tunable-white lights, relays, fans, shades and thermostats are built and desk-tested; their hardware check is still to be recorded.
  • Thermostat: degrees Celsius only, cooling first. Setpoint shift is not supported.
  • Binary sensors are 1-bit only: presence or contact.
  • Only ETS 6.2 or later projects import.
  • Known defect: now and then one device of a batch comes up Offline. Remove it and add it again in Configure Pro.
  • A build with a new driver identity is a new driver to Crestron Home: pair it again. The configuration does not move over, so export it first.
